Direct Renin Inhibitors

Information for Patients

Direct Renin Inhibitors

Known as Aliskiren or Rasilez

What do Direct Renin Inhibitors do?

This is a new class of medication and it works on the kidneys directly by blocking the effect of the enzyme renin. This in turn affects the hormone called angiotensin II.

Angiotensin II causes the blood vessels to become narrow, therefore causing the blood pressure to rise.

Direct Renin Inhibitors play a part in helping to keep the blood vessels relaxed therefore reducing the blood pressure.

Key Tip for You
