Furosemide - Also known as Lasix or Furosemide
You have been prescribed Furosemide by your doctor, which works on your kidneys to get rid of excess water from the body.
The doctor will want to monitor you and may take a blood test while you are taking this medicine.
What does Furosemide do?
It will make you urinate (pass water) more often. Furosemide is used to treat oedema (water retention) and sometimes used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure).
Key Tip for Patients
If you are going out in the morning take Furosemide when you get back home. However, do not leave it later than 6pm.
How do I take Furosemide?
Always read the information leaflet that comes with your medication.
Furosemide is taken by mouth and it comes in tablet form.
Take Furosemide exactly as directed by your doctor or follow directions on the package and always ask your doctor, nurse or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand.
What happens if I miss a dose?
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. Then take your next dose at the normal time. Do not take double the amount at the same time.
However, if it is after 6pm in the evening skip the missed dose and continue taking it at the usual time.
