Alcohol Intake

Reduction in alcohol intake has been shown in clinical trials to lower blood pressure and can

reduce the incidence of hypertension.

Current recommendations of alcohol intake :

Less than 21 units of alcohol per week for men or less than 3 units per day

Less than 14 units of alcohol per week for women or less than 2 units per day

The number of units of alcohol in a drink can be determined by multiplying the volume of the drink (in millilitres) by its percentage ABV, and dividing by 1000.

1 unit of alcohol = 85ml glass of 12% wine

                              =  25ml measure of 40% spirits

=  Half pint of normal beer/larger
